Nielsen Norman Group (NN/g) is a UX insights organization trusted by leading organizations world-wide to provide reliable guidance on user experience. We provide evidence-based UX articles, in-depth training, research reports, and consulting. 

We’re a small, fully remote company (fewer than 40 people). We believe deeply in our mission to help the world learn about and improve UX, and enjoy working with our curious and passionate coworkers. Once or twice a year, we travel to a fun location to spend time together in-person and discuss ideas to improve our work and our company. (Our most recent offsite locations include Jackson Hole, San Diego, and Asheville.)

Role Description
Help us build something completely new! We’re looking for a talented software development manager with a start-up mentality (bonus points if you’ve worked at a startup). You will oversee a small team of developers (some full-time employees and some external consultants), help with development planning, support ongoing website needs, and drive the implementation of a completely new service.

We’re looking for someone with: 

  • Strong technical roadmap and planning skills
  • Leadership strength in directing others to execute and succeed
  • Ability to solve problems and quickly adapt to feedback
  • Start-up mentality
  • Affinity for a fast paced environment
  • Interest in managing younger developers
  • Fluent in Django 4+, Django Rest Framework, Python 3, Javascript, and React

Responsibilities

  • Build, grow, lead, and drive the development team to successful delivery of solid technical solutions that meets the company’s needs
  • Lead the technical planning, coordination, architecture, scoping and implementation of projects 
  • Provide technical leadership and direction to the development team
  • Provide constructive feedback to team members and other stakeholders
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and leadership on project status
  • Develop and deliver technical and product roadmaps based on product designs and stakeholder input and analysis that build a compelling product and service designed on time and with the highest level of quality
  • Enforce technical standards to ensure solutions execute correctly across various supported environments (i.e. browsers, devices, operating systems)
  • Be flexible and adaptable in identifying and solving technical challenges as needed

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the software industry as an individual contributor
  • A minimum of 2 years of supervisory or management experience
  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent field
  • Command of software engineering standard processes across the development lifecycle, including agile methodologies, coding standards, code reviews, source management, build processes, quality assurance, testing, and operations.
  • Extensive professional experience with the following programming languages: Django 4+, Django Rest Framework, Python 3, Javascript, React
  • Outstanding verbal and written skills with the ability to clearly communicate a vision and get people invested in success
  • Speak fluent English with advanced business proficiency
  • Overlap a minimum of 4 working hours with US Eastern Time
